1. However, Shylock agreed to lend Antonio the money on one condition. 然而夏洛克還是同意借錢給安東尼奧,但是有一個(gè)條件。
condition作"提出的條件"講時(shí),常與介詞on搭配。如句中的"on one condition";也可用在"on condition that"(按......條件;條件是......),此時(shí)that引導(dǎo)的是同位語(yǔ)從句,用來(lái)表述這個(gè)條件。例如:
I'll let you borrow my car on one condition: you lend me your bicycle in return. 我可以把我的轎車借給你,條件是你借給我你的自行車。
I'll come on condition that my parents are invited, too. 在我的父母也受到邀請(qǐng)的條件下,我才會(huì)來(lái)。
condition還可用于以下短語(yǔ):
1) be in condition健康;情況良好
2) be out of condition健康不佳;情況欠佳
His company is in condition / out of condition. 他的公司經(jīng)營(yíng)情況良好(經(jīng)營(yíng)情況欠佳)。
3) on no condition在任何條件下都不;決不
You should on no condition visit that place. 你決不能去那個(gè)地方。
2. Have mercy on Antonio, Shylock. Do not be so bitter.寬恕安東尼奧吧,夏洛克。不要這樣懷恨在心。
have mercy on / upon = have pity on, show / give mercy to"憐憫;寬恕"。例如:
He showed no mercy to the thief and beat him hard. 他毫不寬恕小偷,狠狠地揍了他一頓。
The landlord had no mercy on the poor peasants. 地主對(duì)貧苦農(nóng)民一點(diǎn)也不憐憫。
at the mercy of"完全受......支配;任由......擺布;在......掌握中"。例如:
They were lost at sea, at the mercy of wind and weather. 他們?cè)诤Ｉ嫌鲭U(xiǎn)失事了,不得不聽(tīng)?wèi){風(fēng)浪和天氣的擺布。
What a mercy that...! 幸好 / 幸虧......!例如:
What a mercy that you did not go!幸虧你沒(méi)去!
3. This is a most troublesome case. 這是一個(gè)非常麻煩的案子。
a most troublesome case=a very troublesome case,此處形容詞最高級(jí)most形式前不用定冠詞the,而用不定冠詞a,most是"非常"的意思。例如:
He is a most skillful driver. 他是個(gè)技術(shù)非常高超的駕駛員。
4. You wanted justice, so you shall get justice, more than you wanted. 你要求公正,那么就讓你得到公正吧,比你要求的還要多。
shall作為情態(tài)動(dòng)詞, 用于一、三人稱的疑問(wèn)句時(shí),表示征求對(duì)方的意見(jiàn)。例如:
Shall I get you some more tea? 再來(lái)點(diǎn)茶好嗎?
Shall he come, sir? 他必須得來(lái)嗎,先生?
shall用于二、三人稱的陳述句時(shí),表示說(shuō)話人給對(duì)方的命令、警告、允諾或威脅等。例如:
You shall fail if you don't work harder. 如果你不更加努力些,你會(huì)不及格的。(警告)
He shall have the book when I finish reading it. 我看完后,他可以得到這本書。(允諾)
The terrorists shall suffer for this. 恐怖分子會(huì)因此而受到懲罰。(威脅)
